Focusing On the Love of God

Focusing on the love of God changes us. It changes our very beings. And it brings hope to impossible situations.

Today, as I was going to work in the rain, I felt God’s hug. It’s strange. Here I was driving to a simple cleaning job, and God reached over and held me close.

No doubt there will be some who say this cannot occur. Maybe even many. But that doesn’t change my experience.

Sometimes we put God in a box. We think He’s only here in spirit; He can’t reach out. But I’m not entirely sure that’s true.

At the very worst times in my life, I could almost feel God’s arms around me.

At the beginning of my journey through breast cancer, I experienced this as well.

Right after my first chemotherapy session, I was so sick. I had been vomiting for three days, and I couldn’t even drink water.

And on top of that, I was so afraid of death. I had these kids, and all I wanted to do was be a mom. Now it seemed even that had been taken from me.

Truthfully, I thought that I might not live through it. I lay there silently.

And that is when God showed up. At the very worst moment of my life. When I was completely alone, and no one else could solve my problem.

I lay there too sick to even wrap up in a blanket. Tears fell silently. I heard God’s quiet voice, “You will not die from this.”

As strange as it seems, I was certain that I had heard from Him. There is no mistaking the quiet voice that speaks directly to your heart.

During the rest of my cancer journey, when I was so ill, all I could do was lie there; He would come. He would wrap me in His arms and hold me as I cried.

His presence brought me peace and comfort that could not be explained.

Focusing on God’s love changes everything. I don’t know where you are in your journey, but I do know that God is ready and willing to meet you there.

Read, memorize, and meditate on verses telling us about God’s love.

God created love. True love only comes from Him.

We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

He demonstrates His love for us.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

His love is kind.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying:

I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3

His love delights in us.

The Lord your God is with you,
    the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephania 3:17

God’s love is unfailing and full of compassion.

Though the mountains be shaken
    and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10

Focusing on God’s love brings hope into very dark places.

It shows us a way through difficult circumstances.

Focusing on God’s love also changes us. We go from a person who is merely surviving to a person full of hope, peace, and compassion towards ourselves and others.

Prayers for your journey,

Lacey
