Three People In the Bible Who Needed a Miracle and Got One!

Sometimes, we all need a miracle, and this post is about what to do when you need a miracle! It’s not an easy fix. I don’t believe that there are easy fixes for some things.

But I do believe that we start from a place where God is good!

It’s a small step, but one that is essential when we are looking for a miracle.

I’ve been needing one or two in my own life, and this has prompted me to do a little scripture study about people who needed a miracle in the Bible and got one!

I thought I would share these with you!

The miracle of healing. Naaman was the captain of the Syrian army and had leprosy.

In biblical times, leprosy was a death sentence. And not an easy death at that. Leprosy is a disease that affects peripheral nerves.

Once contracted in those days, there wasn’t a cure, and it would eventually disfigure the entire body and ultimately end in death. No wonder Namaan was desperate!

It strikes me here that there are a lot of things that feel like leprosy to me! Cancer, poverty, mental illness, and even deep emotional pain.

It’s the thing that’s out to destroy us. These are not easy fixes, but a God needed miracle!

Naaman’s wife had a small handmaiden. (Who had been kidnapped by the Syrian army and still decided to help Naaman, there’s a lesson for another day!)

When the handmaiden heard about Namaan and his leprosy issue, she suggested to his wife that he look up a prophet in Samaria named Elisha.

Namaan contacted the king of Israel regarding being healed of leprosy, and this caused a little bit of chaos and panic for the king. But eventually Elisha was found, and he agreed to help Naaman.

When Namaan showed up on Elisha’s doorstep, Elisha didn’t greet him in the way he thought a famous man and great captain should be.

He sent out his servant and had him relay a message to Namaan.

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 2 Kings 5:10.

Initially, Namaan was offended. Taking a dip in the Jordan River was too easy and too gross, as it was not known for its cleanliness.

But his servant talked him into it. You can read about it here. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Kings%205&version=KJV

After taking seven dips in the river, Namaan was clean, so much so that his skin was like the skin of a child.

I want to take a minute here and break this down.

There are times in our lives when knowing someone doesn’t help, and only God can help. But there are times when knowing someone changes everything. Is there someone you can talk to about this?

When I was going through cancer, people contacted me about options that I didn’t know were available.

When it comes to needing a miracle in your life, please don’t discount the connections you have or their advice. That may be the miracle you need!

Does your need fall into this category? Let’s check out the next one!

The miracle of need. The widow and the oil.

During the days of Elisha, there was a desperate woman. Her husband had died, and she had no income.

The creditors were coming to take her two sons away to pay her debts. She came to Elisha desperate!

He asked her what she had. She replied that she only had a jar of oil.

He instructed her to borrow every jar that she could from her neighbors. And when she had done that, her miracle began!

You can read about it here.

He instructed her to go home and close the door. She then began pouring the oil into her many jars. When she had filled every jar, he instructed her to sell the oil and pay her debts.

Recently, as I was going through a season of need, I caught a YouTube video from Priscilla Shirer that deeply encouraged me. This video may also help you!

There are times when you have to look at what you have and start moving forward with what you have. Then, step by step, God will begin to bless each venture and each small step forward.

And he will begin to multiply, in ways that only he can do!

The miracle of a new start. Mary Magdalene and seven demons.

The Bible talks about Mary Magdalene, but it doesn’t give us a lot of information on how Jesus cast out the seven demons living inside of her.

But we know that this is what happened.

And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,

And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. Luke 8:2-3 KJV

What we do see is Mary’s new start in life!

Throughout the New Testament, she is mentioned as a follower and a friend of Jesus many times.

A new start is the most critical miracle for everyone!

Starting with salvation, you can read about that here:

But also just needing a new start, wherever you are in life.

Sometimes the thing you need the very most is turning the page on where you’ve been.

A new start happened to Mary. And I believe it can happen to us!

Maybe it’s time to start praying and researching what kind of new start you need!

What kind of miracle do you need?

I’ve been in a season of my life that has been very difficult. And I’m wondering what I need to restore my joy and my faith.

And deep down, I know that only God can restore what I’ve lost.

I know he can. But I wonder if he will.

And that leads me to the most essential part of this.

Do we believe that God is good?

Now, I’m not saying that if God is good, hard things never happen. That’s not accurate at all. And unfair to God.

But do I believe that God is good in a way that means he cares deeply about his people? Do I genuinely believe he heals, provides, and will give us a new start when we need one?

I’ve spent a lot of time lately reviewing the promises of God to his saints. He is good! And I think he might be waiting on the edge of his seat for us to ask him for these types of miracles!

We don’t need an easy fix; we need a miracle that changes everything for us, and this kind of thing happens every day!

Prayers for your journey! Please let me know what you think!
