Chicken Drama!

I might hate most reality TV shows, but I love a good chicken drama!

Pepper is unfaithful to Colonel Clank, which causes Clank to tackle Colonel Cowboy. Popeye steals from Cupcake. And a chicken hawk flies terrifyingly overhead. Great headlines!

Food Insecurities.

There are occasional food insecurities within the United States.

And while most of us lack nothing, I am beginning to see the importance of having a backup plan for food shortages or supply chain delays. It’s worth thinking through a scenario.

I have a friend with chickens and a garden, and her daughter gets fresh milk from a local farmer.

They hope this never happens, but they are also not willing to pay $5 a dozen for eggs. These connections can minimize a food shortage or supply chain delay.

Chicken eggs can be a source of income or a valuable trading commodity in times of need.

Healthy Eating!

Eggs are packed with protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals. They are used in many recipes.

God’s brilliant idea, “the egg,” has been a staple of generations.

Our desire to start creating our own food sources will lead to a healthier lifestyle. And you can eat them should they get out of line (I’m talking to you, Mr. Rooster!)

Kids With a Job!

Sending kids to get the eggs is so much fun! There is a certain amount of excitement and pride in this job.

This small step creates a connection between the child and the animal!

I once sent my son out to get the eggs, and he found a chicken laying an egg. He stroked her head and said, “It will be okay. Just keep breathing.” I cannot imagine what the chicken thought!

Chicken Requirements.

Owning chickens is legal in many cities. You will need to review the laws in your area.

They do not usually allow roosters for apparent reasons.

You can keep chickens in smaller spaces with a proper environment, and they are relatively cheap to raise. Keep your flock to a healthy minimum to reduce food costs.
