Now Turn and Courageously Face Your Mountain.

We all have one: that mountain you must cross for things to get better. And it’s not just any mountain. It’s the big one. You know, that chance to be strong and courageous.

Mountains come in different sizes. Some days, it’s a walk in the park. Others, it makes you feel like you are hanging on the edge of a cliff.

But whatever the case may be. A mountain must be climbed. There is no way around it.

So, whatever your mountain, I thought I would share some tips that I have found helpful. Please let me know if they help you!

One. Find your people.

It’s not big. But it is important. God intended for us to live life in community with others.

Now, there are people, and then there are the people meant for this mountain.

We all have people around us, but they may not be the people who encourage us on this mountain.

So, find one or two people who believe in the mountain with you. These people will be the ones who pray for you, encourage you, and climb the mountain with you.

Two. Find your verse.

It may help you to search out Bible verses that have guided this decision. Write on a 3×5 card and keep it with you.

When I was in college and felt very inadequate, I read the book of Numbers. You can find it here.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, here is a summary of it.

The children of Israel had been living in captivity and slavery in Egypt. Through the prophet Moses and God’s work, they were finally free.

Moses had sent out spies into the land. The spies had returned with good news. The land was full of “milk and honey.”

However, only two of the twelve spies believed in God enough for victory over their enemies. You see, the land was inhabited by “giants.”

The two spies were Caleb and Joshua.

Here is their report.

And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.

Numbers 14:7-9 KJV

I knew that God had called me to the situation and that he would give me the strength to finish the degree.

Remember, if God has called you to that mountain, he will give you the strength to climb it and victory when you are finished.

You may need to get very good at saying “no.”

There are variations of this.

“I can’t at this time, but check back because I would love to go at a different time.” “My plate is too full at this point, etc.”

We don’t want to offend, but when attempting something challenging, we must realize that we can’t do “everything.”

We need to conserve our strength for the mountain ahead. This includes maintaining our focus.

When you get to the top, take a moment to bask in the sunshine!

It might take a while to reach the top, and the top might look slightly different from what you thought. But you will make it!

And you can sit in that sunny spot for just a little while. Rest.

But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
